I'll just chuck some photos of what I've done on Rod's bonnet so far, will add some of other cars when I get home in about an hour.

I am wetsanding the bonnet to hopefully remove all the Orange Peel and Pitting.

Before:

Close up of the Orange Peel, Pitting etc, note how blurry the reflection of my Halogens is, this is because of the way Orange Peel alters the reflection of light, causing it to reflect at angles instead of perfect.

again, note blurry reflections:

Clay Bar, showing that there was Red overspray on the paint. All gone now.

Wetsanding my test area:

So far it appears I have removed all the Orange Peel, will know for sure tomorrow when I polish it up, but it looks, and feels completely flat and smooth.

Also Rod, don't worry, although it looks horrible at the moment where I sanded, it will look good when polished......I promise haha

RIM STRIPPED DIY

My Rim Strip DIY
I purchase a set of ROTA’s where the clear coat was flaking off and the previous owner(s) spray canned the rims black and it looked shithouse!
What you will need:
Disposable gloves ($7 a pack of 100)
Diggers paint stripper (@ bunnings for 14$ a bottle 1 litre x 3)
Paint Brush (size pending rim type)
Heat gun (speeds up the process abit)
Steel wool ($2 for a box of 10-20 x 2)
1500 grit paper (about $1 each x 2)
Brasso Metal Polisher ($8)
Step 1:
Take of the tyres of the rims @ a rim shop cost me 5$ a rim x4 = $20
Step 2:
Find an area where u can get it dirty and use cardboard or something so it doesn’t damage any valuable table tops. Purchase all these things u need on the list. Set up the working area make sure to have a bucket of water near buy... it will come in handy..

Step 3:
Put on gloves and apply a generous amount of paint stripper all over the rim where u want to strip the paint. You need to be generous with the paint stripper and give it time to soften the paint (can use heat gun to speed it up abit) if not u wait about 10-15 minutes for eat away.

Step 4:
Don’t bother wetting the steel wool. I find that it works better dry! So use your steel wool and start scrubbing the excess paint off. You can use a blow dryer/another cloth or a pressure hose to get rid of the paint flakes. Try keep it clean so you know where to apply more paint stripper because it doesn’t take it all off at the one time.

Step 5:
Repeat step 3 and 4 until your happy with it! (inside outside and around if you keen)

Step 6
After your down to the bare alloy you might notice some patches of uneven metal. To fix this i used 1500 grit sanding paper @ autobarn you can also source these @ bunnings just wet it to prevent harsh scratches. And sand the area’s down. (thanks for the tip RUZTEK)

Step 7
Take it to the carwash to pressure hose it down. Then dry it up! And double check for other patches or areas where you have missed.

Step 8:
Use Brasso Metal Polish (different for STEEL and ALLOY make sure you get the right one) and usin a buffer apply the metal polish. And let it settle for 10mins before buffing it out.
Step 9:
Take ur rims back and get your tyres put back on! (i got them re-balanced and tyres back on for 40$ 10$ a wheel.) And pat yourself on the back!

Step 10:
Make a post on a car forum! then realise that you could of got your rims sandblasted for 40$ a rim! FML!

this took me about 1-1.5 weeks to do due to uni committments so i took my time. and did it for about 1-2 hrs each night!

note: the paint stripper can sometimes burn through the disposable gloves when it does it burns abit! so have the bucket there soo u can put ur hand in it!
